Dear Jeeves Clients,
Warm greetings. As we move into May, Hong Kong is already feeling warmer with temperatures around 26 to 29 degrees, high humidity and frequent showers. Many of us naturally switch to lighter summer clothing during this time.
With our years of caring for fine garments in Hong Kong’s climate, we have put together a few practical tips to help you look after your wardrobe at home.
Quick Home Tips for Humid Weather
• Make sure garments are completely dry before storing. Even a slight amount of moisture can cause mildew or odours. Hang items in a ventilated area until fully dry.
• Keep your wardrobe breathable. Avoid overcrowding and use garment bags made from breathable materials instead of plastic.
• Rotate seasonal items. As you move into summer wear, check your off-season pieces, clean them properly and store them with silica gel if needed.
Fabric Care Tips
Linen and Cotton
These fabrics breathe well but absorb moisture easily. Tip: Shake out after washing and air dry on hangers. A quick steam helps refresh them between wears.
Silk
Silk is delicate and reacts easily to humidity, water and sunlight. Tip: For very small marks, gently blot with a silk safe detergent and cool water only if you are confident the colour is stable. Avoid rubbing. Always dry in the shade. For anything larger, bring it to us for professional care.
Performance and Activewear
Technical fabrics can trap sweat and bacteria. Tip: Rinse with cool water after use and air dry completely. Avoid fabric softener as it reduces moisture wicking performance.
These simple habits make a noticeable difference in Hong Kong’s climate and help keep your garments fresh for longer.
If you have items that need specialist care such as stain removal, pressing, repairs or deep cleaning, our team is here to help. You are welcome to visit us, book a collection or message us on WhatsApp.
